We are excited to announce that 5 new zip codes are now covered under the Right to Counsel (RTC) law! This brings the total number of zip codes where RTC is in effect to 25. They are the following:  

Bronx: 10457, 10462, 10467, 10468, 10453*

Brooklyn: 11216, 11221, 11225, 11226, 11207*

Manhattan: 10025, 10026, 10027, 10029*, 10031, 10034*

Queens: 11373, 11385, 11433, 11434, 11691*

Staten Island: 10302, 10303, 10310, 10314

The asterisk * indicates a zip code that has just been added. The law is currently being phased in by zip code and will be citywide by 2022. All of our resources, such as our FAQs and www.evictionfreenyc.org, have now been updated with the new zip codes. 

The RTC law was passed in 2017, and since then, the data has shown that 84 percent of tenants who had a lawyer through RTC were able to remain in their homes!

With more zip codes now added, we know we need more organizers than ever to inform tenants about their RTC and help them use it! 

That's why we are working to pass Intro 1529, which would require the city to fund and support tenant organizing. Sign our petition to the mayor to pass this legislation today!
